Palestinian Authority to Cancel All Security Commitments to Israel

London-based Arab-Palestinian newspaper Al Quds al-Arabi reported on friday that the Palestinian Authority plans to stop coordinating its security with Israel and push for a unilateral abrogation of all Oslo and Road Map commitments in response to failed Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Khana Amira, a senior Palestinian official, told the newspaper that the Palestinians are also considering canceling its other security commitments to Israel, including fighting terror, the Jerusalem Post said.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Yasser Abed Rabbo, a senior PLO official and an adviser to PA President Mahmoud Abbas reportedly plans to convene a meeting with the PLO and Fatah central committees on Friday afternoon, in order to make a new plan for the Palestinians.

Earlier in October, Yasser Abed Rabbo warned that the Palestinian Authority would unilaterally abrogate the Oslo Accords if the peace process broke down.

“We can’t remain committed to the agreements that were signed with Israel forever,” he said. “One party can’t remain committed while the other party has violated the agreements and even canceled them.” [JPost, Oct 23, 2010]

The Oslo Accords, signed by Israel and the Palestinians in a 1993 ceremony in Washington, set the framework for future negotiations and relations between the two sides. It was officially called the Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements.

The road map, first outlined in 2002 by U.S. President George W. Bush, was a plan proposed by the United States, European Union, Russia and the United Nations to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with a two-state solution — a secure Israel alongside a peaceful democratic Palestinian state.

Quotes and Sayings

About the Region, Islam and cultural totalitarianism...

Israel is a colonialist-imperialist phenomenon. There is no such thing as an Israeli people. Before 1948, world geography knew of no state such as Israel. Israel is the result of an invasion, of aggression.
